- the flayrah's are a long line of culinarians
- marli's mom married into the family, and after retiring from a life of adventuring, settled into the family business and decided to start a family
- marli was an odd kid and struggled hitting many milestones, especially spoken words
- mom dug out her old adventuring gear and was bragging to marli how much of a badass she was
- marli dawned the helmet, and just like that, started talking
- dad was concerned but mom was like no she can wear the helmet it's cool
- marli grew up wearing the helmet basically
- she found cooking boring because she struggled with the finer pastries/etc
- she would help make deliveries/with customer service all while wearing her helmet
- eventually the family charged her with gathering supplies
- turns out she's very, very skilled with an ax
- some point in her late teens, her parents had another child
- her sister was very, very skilled at cooking
- marli loves her sister and is protective of her, and while most other people view marli as some stoic warrior, her little sister is like ah yes my goofy sister who needs a helmet to communicate but i love her very, very much
- she has a happy family life
- eventually she realized adventuring is a good means to make money and support her family, and set off for the adventurers life
- she actively writes her family letters, and her sister writes her with life updates
- she saves every letter from her sister and is like a proud parent
- marli herself is still awkward unless you're talking about business or tactics
- she struggles to stray from those conversations even with her helmet on, but will still answer since it masks her awkwardness
- becomes very curt without the helmet
- knows she probably comes off as rude but doesn't really know how to fix that
- will upfront say "i'm really only skilled at killing" when people want her to stick around longer
- prefers to hang out in the woods
- can talk no problem to her chocobo or pets without a helmet on, and will have lengthy conversations with them
- would secretly like to learn the art of cooking to impress her sister, because she does not quite understand her sister already thinks the world of her
- would absolutely wear the helmet while cooking
